WELCOME TO RIGA CUP 2014

We like to welcome everybody in Riga, Latvia, the cultural capital of Europe 2014. There is plenty
to see in Riga apart from the hockey. Stroll thru the Old Town, get a meal in Lido restaurant,
get to the beach in Jurmala, visit the Art Nouveau District or go shopping at one of the malls
around town.

Of course the main event for players and coaches is the tournament. Another tournament with
more than 180 teams over 5 weekends. It is already the 9th edition of Riga Cup. We are proud
to have such a variety of teams again. You guys are from all around Europe from countries
as Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Estonia, Lituania, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia,
Poland, Switzerland, Hungary, England, Netherlands and of course Latia.

It is also nice to see teams are comng back, which, in our opinion, means they enjoyed it in
previous years. We wish all participants good luck and a great tournament and hope you
enjoy your stay in beautiful Riga.

Furthermore we like to thank all players, coaches, parents, sponsors, arenas, referees and
everybody not mentioned here, because all together we make it possible to have such a great
tournament.

We hope to see you back in 2015 in our 10th year anniversary tournament!!!!!!

On behalf of the Tournament Committee,
Angelo Bomius

CHARITY PROJECT RIGA CUP 2014

As organizers of the Riga Cup we started three years ago with adopting an Orphanage during the Riga Cup Tournaments 2011 in Riga, Latvia. For this project we choose Orphanage and Childcare Dzeguzite. In 2012 and 2013 we choose for two projects : Orphan House Dzeguzite (http://www.dzeguzite.lv/) and Orphan House Raiskuma (http://www.raiskumaintsk.edu.lv/ ). At the same time we also were able to choose for a third project : Cesis St. Johns Church. This because of the many gifts you brought us! All three years have been very, very successful! That’s why we decided to adopt those projects again during the Riga Cup Tournaments 2014! We hope you will help us the same way as you did previous years!!! We are counting on you!!!!!

We have three goals for the Riga Cup Tournaments 2014 :
Our first goal is to try to make a memorable day for the children of Dzeguzite. Our second goal is to try to get as many goods as possible for the children of Dzeguzite and Raiskuma. There is among other urgent needs for winter clothes for boys and girls for all ages, also need for baby clothes, and clothes for adults. Furthermore the children needs hats, scarves, gloves, boots and sportshoes. The boys always can use footballs and basketballs type 5 and 6 and the big girls loves real girl things, likes jewelry, make-up, nice smells, nice bags, nice photo frames etc. Our third goal is to bring as many goods as we can for the peope of the St. Johns Church from Cesis. Those people really can use everything!

SO PLEASE WILL YOU HELP US????
You can help us to make a donation to our account stating "charity projects" or you can bring goods for our projects when you come over to visit one of our tournaments.

RIGA – EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2014

Riga is already a venue for cultural events on an international scale, but in 2014 it will become the cultural epicentre of Europe. During its year as European Capital of Culture, hundreds of special events will take place - culture in the very broadest sense. 365 days a year, with a new understanding of culture as a positive force of change in people's lives. This year, cultural personalities are already warming up for Riga as European Capital of Culture 2014 with a variety of interesting events.

Riga has given many pearls to the culture of Europe and the world – the most important arhitectual include the Old Riga, Art Noveau, and wooden architecture. An elusive value is the multicultural environment that has been characteristic from the very beginning, since people of many various nationalities have lived here together – the Latvians, Germans, Russians, Poles, Swedes, Finns and others. This variety through Johann Gottfried Herder and Immanuel Kant has played an important role in development of the German Enlightenment Philosophy, has been the cradle for the cinema genius Sergey Eisenstein, philosopher Isaiah Berlin and an asylum for the opera grand Richard Wagner, and for centuries has been a source of inspiration for a range of other famous European people.

During 2014 everyone will be able to become acquainted with works and contributions of these personalities, as well as evaluate the marks on the modern Latvian music, fine arts, cinema and pop culture, as museums and other depositories will prepare special exhibitions and shows for this event trying to outclass one another in diversity to attract attention of the interested persons.

Guests of the city will be able to enjoy pearls of music performed by the world-renowned Latvian choirs, magnificent opera staging, modern art performances, popular music concerts, art exhibitions, grand national celebrations and many more events, which the guests can take part in.
